You may remember the very brief review I gave of Katrina's book when it was first released last year. Well, it is now in paperback and I am giving away a copy to one of my readers.
Having lived more than half my life, with three (almost grown) children leaving or already out the door, my one true identity is being redefined. And I have struggled with the process. Family has always been my number one priority. As you can probably gather from the post I wrote about my oldest daughter moving off to college as my first granddaughter was born, I was so awestruck by the poignancy of that moment that I could only write words, not sentences.
I knew the day would come when I would face an empty nest, I just didn't think it would be so painful. For the last two years, I've spent my time watching the clock knowing that I only had so many more years, months, weeks, days left of the family life I've come to treasure. When I read Katrina's book "The Gift of an Ordinary Day", all I wanted was more of those days. Much more.
So as Katrina moved on from watching her children walk out the door in various stages, I, too, was following in her footsteps. Which brings me to this book. Change is inevitable, but sometimes you need to hear a few tiny words of wisdom to know you're not alone. Katrina shares those words of wisdom with a kind, caring heart. Follow her on her journey of self-discovery.
Please leave a comment below, and I will pick a winner at random by the end of the weekend. The winner will be contacted and announced next week.
Good luck!

I have struggled with contentment as well. After I lost my job I struggled with and still struggle with. ..what do I do now. I don't want to go back and do what I had been doing for 15 years. Even as a stay at home mom....i struggle with is this all?
Thanks for the opportunity to win this book I've been looking forward to readinf5.
My kids left home 16 yrs ago and do you know, I still, to this day, miss supper time around the table. Making dinner for everyone was a purpose to the end of the day. They didnt always like what I made but we all sat together every night!
Now I cook for Steve and I, the ritual doesn't have the same fulfillment but I do feel content, especially if he says "great meal honey!"
Aww... I love this author too, Kim. Just this morning Miles was humming and playing with his legos before school - and every time I hear him doing that, I wonder how much longer he'll have the magic of play. It makes me a little sad, but I am glad that I noticed it this morning.
I'm a fan. Thanks for the giveaway--fingers crossed.

Although I am still a few years away from the Empty Nest "event", it is something that is still always on my mind. I worry often that it's on my mind TOO much, and that I'm neglecting the rest of my life's blessings! Winner or no, I'll definitely be reading this book. Thank you for the post!

I have two grown children and a house full of empty rooms. All I've ever done is care for them and now I'm walking around wondering what to do. This book would help I'm sure.

Tough as sending children off to the adventure of their own lives is, a consolation is that we wouldn't really want it any other way - would we?? There is certainly sisterhood in the collective feeling.
